What others are saying...

Mr. John T. Browne recently wrote a letter to the local newspaper to thank Delegate Smigiel for his leadership on helping the Earleville community address the recent decision by the Cecil County Commissioners to close Mill Lane and to not repair the dam or bridge, which were destroyed by Hurricane Floyd.
Mr. Browne wrote,
“Finally! A consensus builder and a politician! I was one of the one hundred or so Earleville residents who attended the Mill Lane Road closure meeting held at the Cecilton firehouse.
I was fully prepared to listen to a lot of rhetoric and promised from another elected official. I could not have been more wrong. I was quite impressed with the extensive preparation by Mr. Phillip Pierce, Ms. Sarah Whelan, Mrs. Anne Swears, Delegate Michael Smigiel and members of his staff. I was also quite impressed by the state and federal agencies’ presentation.
I came away from this meeting with my faith restored in politics. Delegate Smigiel is a great consensus builder who responds to constituents’ concerns. Not once did I feel I was being talked at, instead of to. Not even once did I hear the gloom and doom sob story that nothing can be done…
Thank you Delegate Smigiel and members of NOAA, MDE, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife for presenting the situation as it currently exists, what options can be chosen and advising attendees as to the next steps to follow in order to restore this environmentally-fragile area.”
